Long Beach State beats CS Northridge 94-79 behind Faust

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. (AP) Nick Faust scored 28 points with 7 of 8 3-pointers and 12 rebounds - all career highs - and the 49ers shot a season-high 15 3-pointers as Long Beach State beat Cal State Northridge 94-79 Wednesday night in the Big West Conference opener for both teams.

Faust, who transferred from Maryland for his final season of eligibility, had his 16th straight game scoring in double figures.

The 49ers hit 15 of 30 from beyond the arc for their third-best performance in program history.

Justin Bibbins scored a career-high 20 points and Branford Jones and Gabe Levin added 14 apiece for Long Beach State (7-9).

Down by five at halftime, the Matadors rallied to lead 45-44 on Olalekan Ajayi's layup, but five of the 49ers' next seven shots were made 3-pointers. Faust hit his seventh 3-pointer with 3:50 left for a 20-point lead.

Kendall Smith scored a career-high 27 for the Matadors (5-10). Tre Hale-Edmerson had a career-high nine assists.
