Stony Brook beats Binghamton 62-52 in America East opener

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (AP) Rayshaun McGrew scored a career-high 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, Jameel Warney had 13 points with 14 boards and Stony Brook beat Binghamton 62-52 Wednesday night in the America East Conference opener for both teams.

Binghamton took its first lead at 28-27 early in the second half. Everson Davis tied it at 45 with eight minutes left, but the Bearcats went without a field goal for four-plus minutes. Bryan Sekunda hit two consecutive 3-pointers to give Stony Brook the lead for good.

Ahmad Walker added 11 points and Carson Puriefoy had 10 for Stony Brook (10-4). It was Warney's 48th career double-double and McGrew's 10th.

Stony Brook's bench only scored one point in the game and the Bearcats got two points from their reserves.

Bobby Ahearn had 13 points and seven rebounds for Binghamton (3-11). Everson Davis added 12 points.
