Clemson's Alexander may not play in title game

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) It looks like Clemson cornerback Mackensie Alexander will play against Alabama.

Alexander, battling a hamstring injury, took part in team warmups at University of Phoenix Stadium, even high stepping with teammates before the game.

Alexander hurt his hamstring in the top-ranked Tigers' 37-17 victory over Oklahoma in the Orange Bowl nearly two weeks ago. He's worked out with the team since, but is still not considered 100 percent.

The Tigers are counting on Alexander to try and hold down Alabama star receiver Calvin Ridley.

Alexander's issue is a further question about Clemson's defense. All-American defensive end Shaq Lawson sprained a knee ligament against the Sooners and has been sore since. Lawson and coach Dabo Swinney have said he's expected to play.

Lawson also took part in pre-game drills.
