South Carolina State tops North Carolina A&T, 92-85

ORANGEBURG, S.C. (AP) Eric Eaves and Ed Stephens combined to score 50 points as South Carolina State shot 33 of 45 from the free throw line to hold off North Carolina A&T, 92-85 on Monday night.

Coming off its first win over North Carolina Central in 10 meetings Saturday, South Carolina State (8-10, 3-1) pushed its Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference record to 3-1, a game back of conference-leading Hampton.

Eaves knocked down 17 of 23 attempts from the free throw line to finish with 27 points, leading the scoring effort for the Bulldogs while Stephens hit 6 of 9 from behind the three-point line and finished with 23. Greg Mortimer hit 8 of 10 from the line and added 12 points while Gabriel McCray grabbed six rebounds to add 12.

Denzel Keys scored 22 points to lead the Aggies (5-13, 2-2), who shot 14 of 20 from the line. Ahmad Abdullah added 19 points.
