Oklahoma running back Samaje Perine will miss spring practice after undergoing surgery Monday on his left ankle, reports ESPN’s Matt Fortuna.

Perine sustained ligament damage in Oklahoma’s 37–17 loss to Clemson in the Orange Bowl on Dec. 31. He originally injured his left ankle in the Sooners’ 30–29 win against TCU on Nov. 21, and then re-aggravated it during Oklahoma’s 58–23 victory at Oklahoma State on Nov. 28.

The sophomore, who finished the 2015 season with 1,349 yards and 16 touchdowns, will reportedly miss eight to 12 weeks in recovery.

In two seasons with the Sooners, Perine has rushed for 3,062 yards and 37 touchdowns.

As a true freshman in 2014, Perine set the NCAA’s single-game rushing record with a 427-yard effort against Kansas.
