(STATS) - Tennessee Tech will open the Marcus Satterfield coaching era at home against Wofford and make a visit to Tennessee as part of an 11-game schedule announced Wednesday.

The Golden Eagles hope a tough nonconference schedule will pay off in the Ohio Valley Conference. Satterfield has inherited a team coming off four straight losing seasons, including 4-7 this past year.

Tech will host Wofford on Sept. 1 and visit another second Southern Conference team, Mercer, on Sept. 17. The Golden Eagles' visit to Tennessee will be Nov. 5.

Within the OVC, they will host four of their eight opponents: Eastern Kentucky (Oct. 1), Eastern Illinois (Oct. 15), Southeast Missouri (Oct. 22) and Murray State (Nov. 19).

"The toughness of the schedule can help prepare us for bigger and better things, and hopefully help in getting into the postseason," said Satterfield, who was Temple's offensive coordinator the last three seasons. "One of our team traits is going to be toughness, and having to fight through that type of schedule can help us toughen up each week."
