South Florida's Morrison becomes Bowling Green linebackers coach

South Florida defensive graduate assistant Benny Morrison is the new linebackers coach for Bowling Green coach Mike Jinks, according to a source.

The move reunites Morrison with new Falcons associate head coach, defensive coordinator and safeties coach Perry Eliano, who had been UTSA’s special teams coordinator and safeties coach. Morrison worked with Eliano from 2012–14 as a Roadrunners graduate assistant, assisting with the defensive line.

This season was Morrison’s first in his position at South Florida. He was a special teams intern coach at Montana State in 2011 after being a student coach intern that spring at his alma mater, Drake. A Lincolnshire, Ill., native, he was a linebacker at Drake from 2007–10.

Morrison joins the staff of Jinks, who was hired last month to replace former Bowling Green coach Dino Babers. Babers left the Falcons to take the same position at Syracuse after winning the MAC championship this season with a 10–3 record.

This is Jinks’s first collegiate head coaching job after spending the last three seasons as Texas Tech’s running backs coach. He added the title of assistant head coach this season and is a well-respected former longtime Texas high school coach. Jinks won a Class 5A Division II state title in the Lone Star State in 2010 at San Antonio-area Byron P. Steele II High.
