New Mexico State hangs on, beats UMKC 65-64

LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) Pascal Siakam scored 10 points and blocked four shots - including a crucial block late in the game - as New Mexico State held on to beat Missouri-Kansas City 65-64 on Thursday night despite not scoring in the final 1:40.

Martez Harrison, last season's Western Athletic Conference player of the year, led UMKC (8-10, 1-2) with 23 points as the Kangaroos made up a 24-point gap to tie the game at 59-59, but he was foiled twice in the last 1:19.

With New Mexico State leading 65-61, Harrison drove for a layup only to have the shot swatted away by Siakam, the 6-foot-9 sophomore from Cameroon. Four seconds later, Harrison tried a 3-pointer but New Mexico State's Sidy Ndir grabbed the rebound.

UMKC's Dashawn King made 1 of 2 free throws in the last second as the Aggies held on for the win.

Ian Baker led the Aggies (10-8, 2-1) with 16 points.
