(STATS) - If Southeastern Louisiana contends for the Southland Conference title this year, the Lions may look back on their difficult non-conference assignments for putting them there.

The Lions will kick off an 11-game schedule at Oklahoma State on Sept. 3 - only the third time they will face a Big 12 opponent - and visit defending Big Sky Conference champion Southern Utah in their other non-conference game on Sept. 10.

After a bye week, Southeastern will begin its conference schedule with the first of five home games in Hammond against Northwestern State on Sept. 24. Their other home games will be against defending Southland champ McNeese State (Oct. 8), Houston Baptist (Oct. 22, Homecoming), Central Arkansas (Oct. 29) and Abilene Christian (Nov. 12).

"We have a challenging schedule with two non-conference road games and the Southland Conference schedule is always tough," coach Ron Roberts said. "But our players and coaches will be working hard these next eight months towards a great season."

The Lions slumped to a 4-7 record this past season, including 3-6 in Southland games, after they won a pair of conference titles the previous two years.
