Dixie State's Will Harris expected to be San Jose State defensive backs coach

Dixie State special teams coordinator and recruiting coordinator Will Harris is expected to be the new defensive backs coach for San Jose State coach Ron Caragher, according to a source.

It would be a return to Harris’s native California, where he starred at Charter Oak High in Covina before playing defensive back at USC from 2005–09. He would replace former San Jose State secondary coach Donte' Williams, who left earlier this week to become a defensive assistant coach at Arizona.

This past season was Harris’s first at Dixie State after a year as Humboldt State’s defensive backs coach. Humboldt State’s defense was among NCAA Division II's top ten and its pass defense ranked 19th during Harris’s season with the program.

Harris was Northwestern Oklahoma State's secondary coach in 2013. During the spring of ’13, he was an assistant coach in the Snoop Youth Football League founded by rapper Snoop Dogg.

Prior to that, he helped coach at Fullerton College and Diamond Bar (Calif.) High from 2012–13. He also had a brief stint with the NFL's Seattle Seahawks and played for the CFL's Edmonton Eskimos.

San Jose State finished with a 6–7 record this season under Caragher. The Spartans capped the year with a 27–16 victory over Georgia State in the inaugural Cure Bowl last month.
