UC Irvine beats Cal State Fullerton 72-59

IRVINE, Calif. (AP) Jaron Martin had career highs of six 3-pointers and 22 points and UC Irvine beat Cal State Fullerton 72-59 on Wednesday night.

Martin sank four of his 3-pointers during a 20-7 run that put the Anteaters up 20 with 8:38 left on their way to a 25-point bulge with five minutes to go.

Mamadou Ndiaye added 13 points, Luke Nelson 12 and Mike Best 11 for the Anteaters (16-5, 5-0 Big West), who have won six straight and are off to the program's best start since the 2000-01 team began 17-3.

Khalil Ahmad scored 21 points and Kyle Allman added a career-high 15 for the Titans (8-9, 1-3), who have lost three straight.

The Anteaters never trailed and led 31-24 at halftime with Nelson scoring nine points.

UC Irvine, coming in ranked ninth nationally in field-goal percentage defense at 37.4, held the Titans to 36 percent.
