Sacred Heart pulls away late, beats Mount St. Mary's 76-71

FAIRFIELD, Conn. (AP) Cane Broome scored 24 points, and Tevin Falzon added 15 with two key 3-pointers late to help Sacred Heart beat Mount St. Mary's 76-71 on Thursday night.

Eyimofe Edukugho chipped in 12 points for Sacred Heart (4-14, 3-4 Northeast Conference). Elijah Long had 20 points to lead Mount St. Mary's (8-12, 5-2).

Falzon's second straight 3 gave the Pioneers a 67-66 lead, and Broome made three free throws to stretch it to 70-66. Junior Robinson answered with a 3-pointer to pull the Mountaineers to 70-69.

The teams traded two free throws before Broome made two more to stretch the Pioneers' lead to 74-71. Sacred Heart then chose to immediately foul on the ensuing possession with 4.1 left to avoid a Mountaineers' 3-point attempt. Falzon made two free throws to seal it.

It was tied at 52 with 12:33 to play. Neither team had more than a three-point lead for the next 11 minutes.
