Division I college basketball is now without an undefeated team, as No. 8 SMU suffered its first defeat of the season, falling to Temple 89–80 on Sunday.

Temple took a 19–16 lead on a Quenton DeCosey three with 9:22 remaining in the first half and never looked back, leading the rest of the way. The Owls were up by as much as 19 in the second half and held on to at least a 9-point lead through the last 8:47.

The loss brings an end to the one major accomplishment available to the Mustangs this season. SMU (18–1) is banned from all of postseason play, including the AAC tournament.

Guard Devin Coleman led the scoring for Temple, putting up 23 points in 25 minutes.

The game was originally scheduled for Saturday, but was postponed due to Winter Storm Jonas.

SMU still leads the AAC standings, while Temple (11–7) moves into third.
