Towson has motivation this offseason

(STATS) - Towson was one of the last two teams to be left out of the 2015 FCS playoff field.

The same scenario hit the Tigers in 2012, and they responded the next season by making a run to the national championship game.

Coach Rob Ambrose is expecting his squad to be motivated again this offseason as it prepares for an 11-game schedule for 2016 that was announced Wednesday.

Their non-conference dates were previously announced - at South Florida on Sept. 3 and Dartmouth Oct. 15, and a home opener at Johnny Unitas Stadium against Saint Francis Sept. 10.

Within CAA Football, Towson will host Stony Brook (Oct. 8), New Hampshire (Oct. 22), Elon (Nov. 5) and William & Mary (Nov. 12). The Tigers' road conference games are at Villanova (Sept. 17), Richmond (Oct. 1), Delaware (Oct. 29) and Rhode Island (Nov. 19).

In the 12-team CAA's unbalanced schedule, Towson will not play Albany, James Madison and Maine.

This past season, Towson finished with a 7-4 record, including 5-3 in the CAA. The FCS playoff selection committee announced the Tigers and North Dakota as the two teams that just missed the final at-large bids.
