Charlotte holds off FIU 72-69, wins 3rd straight

MIAMI (AP) Joseph Uchebo scored 19 points, including 17 in the second half as Charlotte maintained a slim lead defeating Florida International 72-69 on Thursday night, winning a third straight game.

Uchebo scored the first six points for Charlotte (7-13, 4-4 Conference USA) after halftime, and capped a 6-2 run midway through the second half that put the 49ers ahead 54-50 with 11:12 remaining.

Braxton Ogbueze added 15 points, including a 3-pointer that stretched the lead to seven, 63-56 with 6:39 to play. Ogbueze made 5 of 9 3-pointers. Jon Davis added nine points with seven rebounds and seven assists for Charlotte.

Daviyon Draper hit a 3-pointer for FIU (11-10, 5-3) as time expired for the final margin. Draper led the Golden Panthers - who had a two-game win streak end - with 24 points and Adrian Diaz chipped in 17 with a season-high eight blocked shots.
