Freeman gets 1,000th point; Old Dominion tops FAU, 78-66

BOCA RATON, Fla. (AP) Trey Freeman matched his career high with 28 points to surpass 1,000 points at Old Dominion as the Monarchs handled Florida Atlantic, 78-66 in a Conference USA battle Thursday night.

The redshirt senior transferred from Campbell after his sophomore season and is now 106 points shy of 2,000 career points.

Old Dominion never trailed and led by as many as 11 points in the first half, taking a 31-24 advantage into intermission. Freeman converted six straight free throws to push the lead to 69-52 with under five minutes to play.

Freeman was 9 of 19 from the field but missed his two attempts from beyond the arc and hit 10 of 12 free-throw attempts. Zoran Talley added 16 points and Brandan Stith scored 14 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for Old Dominion (11-10, 4-4)

Ronald Delph scored 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Owls (5-16, 3-5).
