Texas Southern beats Alabama A&M 71-66

NORMAL, Ala. (AP) Derrick Griffin scored 16 points with 16 rebounds and Texas Southern stayed unbeaten in Southwestern Conference play, topping Alabama A&M 71-66 on Monday night.

Griffin, a freshman who was named conference player of the week last week, was 7 of 8 from the field and recorded his 10th career double-double and seventh in league play. The Tigers (10-11, 9-0) shot over 49 percent - hitting 14 of 24 (58.3 percent) field-goal attempts in the second half - despite going 4 of 17 from beyond the arc. Jose Rodriguez scored 15 points, Chris Thomas had 14 points on 7-of-11 shooting, and David Blanks added 13 points.

Alabama A&M (7-11, 3-6) was led by Nicholas West with 22 points and seven rebounds. Quinterian McConico and Arthur Wade scored 11 points apiece. The Bulldogs shot under 39 percent and made 6 of 21 on 3-point attempts.
