Five-star LB Caleb Kelly commits to Oklahoma on National Signing Day

Five-star linebacker Caleb Kelly committed to Oklahoma on National Signing Day.

Five-star linebacker Caleb Kelly committed to Oklahoma on Wednesday.

Kelly is ranked 17th overall in the class of 2016 and second among all outside linebackers, according to Scout.com. He was also considering Notre Dame, Ohio State and Oregon. Kelly won the Butkus Award as the nation’s top high school linebacker after recording 115 tackles, 23 tackles for loss and 21 sacks as a senior this season at Clovis West High School in Fresno, Calif.

According to Scout, “Kelly is one of those rare outside linebackers that can rush the passer, is strong against the run and can drop back in to coverage. He has a great frame and as he continues to fill out and gains strength, he’ll become an even more physical player. He’s a high-level athlete who roams around like a safety but projects as an ideal weakside ’backer at the next level. He’s a very solid tackler and is beginning to play with more of an edge to him.”

Kelly is the 20th commitment in the Sooners' 2016 recruiting class, which ranked No. 22 in the country, according to Scout.com, prior to Kelly's pledge.
