Five-star Jeffery Simmons commits to Mississippi State on Signing Day

Five-star defensive end Jeffery Simmons committed to Mississippi State on National Signing Day

Jeffery Simmons, a five-star defensive end from Macon, Miss., committed to Mississippi State on Wednesday afternoon. Simmons was deciding between the Bulldogs, Ole Miss and Alabama.

Standing at 6’4” and weighing in at 270 pounds, Simmons is one of the best prospects to emerge from the state of Mississippi since five-star defensive end Chris Jones committed to Mississippi State in 2013 and is ranked No. 10 overall and No. 2 among defensive ends in the Class of 2016, according to Scout.com. The Noxubee County High product finished with 105 total tackles and 18.5 sacks according to MaxPreps.com.

Simmons committed to the Bulldogs despite a big push from the Crimson Tide and Rebels, who were intent on landing the strongside defensive end. He was widely considered an Ole Miss lean, and his pledge to the Bulldogs is considered one of the biggest surprises of National Signing Day.

He "looks like an ideal fit for strongside defensive end in college, he holds his ground well, is very strong at the point of attack, and he can disengage to make the play,” according to Scout.com.

Simmons is the highest-rated recruit in Mississippi State's recruiting class, which ranked No. 39 in the country before his pledge.
