Four-star WR Tyrie Cleveland flips from Houston to Florida
In what can only be considered in a flip in the loosest of terms, four-star wide receiver Tyrie Cleveland committed to Florida on Wednesday.
The Westfield (Texas) High product pledged to Houston on Dec. 10 but continued to explore his options and referred to National Signing Day in a tweet as when he would “make his college decision.” Cleveland took official visits to TCU, Arkansas and Florida in the last three weeks but ultimately picked the Gators on National Signing Day.
As the No. 2 wide receiver and No. 32 overall recruit in the class of 2016, according to Scout.com, Cleveland gives a huge boost to Florida coach Jim McElwain's class. He caught 37 passes for 846 yards with 14 touchdowns as a senior after hauling in 53 passes for 1,105 yards with 13 scores as a junior.
Scout.com describes the Houston native as “a receiver who has all of the receiver skills you are looking for. He is a long and lean playmaker who has the ability to turn in big plays with his elite-level speed. He is a game changer in that regard, posting a 4.38-second 40-yard dash at The Opening trials in Dallas. On his highlight tape, it is easy to see why he is so desirable. He can turn in long runs, stretch defenses and is also a red-zone weapon with his size and physicality.”
Cleveland joins an elite Florida class, which is currently ranked fourth in the country.
