UC Irvine holds on for 78-72 win over Cal Poly in OT

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. (AP) Mamadou Ndiaye made a 3-point play with 36 seconds to go in overtime to give UC Irvine the lead for good in a 78-72 win over Cal Poly on Wednesday night.

The Anteaters (18-6, 7-1 Big West) trailed 72-70 in overtime before Ndiaye gave them the lead. Luke Nelson made four free throws and Jaron Martin added another to seal it for UC Irvine.

Ndiaye and Nelson scored 21 points apiece to lead the Anteaters. Mike Best added 11.

The Mustangs (8-13, 2-6) went on top 60-58 on a Taylor Sutlive 3-pointer with 1:50 to go in the second half. Reese Morgan extended Cal Poly's lead to 63-60 on a free throw with four seconds left, but then Ndiaye dished to Martin who hit a 3-pointer in the final second to tie it and force overtime.

Sutlive and Ridge Shipley scored 11 points apiece for Cal Poly.
