Sacred Heart holds off St. Francis Brooklyn late, 74-70

FAIRFIELD, Conn. (AP) Cane Broome scored 28 points and Sacred Heart held off St. Francis Brooklyn to earn a 74-70 Northeast Conference victory Thursday night.

The Pioneers led by 10, 64-54 with 3:18 left in the game, but Tyreek Jewell got to the free throw line and knocked down 3 of 4 shots to cut the lead to seven. Jewell hit a 3-pointer with 1:23 left that cut the lead to four, 68-64. And with six seconds left Jewell hit a 3-pointer to get St. Francis within two, 72-70.

Tevin Falzon hit a pair of free throws to push the Sacred Heart lead back to four and the Terriers' Dagur Jonsson missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer.

Falzon finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds for Sacred Heart (7-15, 6-5).

Jewell finished with 29 points to lead St. Francis (9-15, 5-6), hitting 10 of 17 from the field, including 4 of 10 from deep.
