Michigan State RB Gerald Holmes delivers water in Flint, Mich.
Michigan State running back Gerald Holmes returned to Flint, Mich., on Friday to deliver cases of water and recycling bags to the city.
Holmes, a sophomore for the Spartans, is a native of Flint. The city was declared to be in a state of emergency by Gov. Rick Snyder and President Obama in January after the water supply was found to have extremely high levels of lead.
The water problems began in April 2014 after the city switched from Detroit water to Flint River water. Between 6,000 and 12,000 kids have been exposed to the lead-laden water, according to the United Way.

Holmes joins other sports figures such as Pistons owner Tom Gores taking an active role in the Flint crisis. Gores pledged to raise $10 million toward relief efforts, and donated $1 million of his own to the cause.
