Prarie View A&M upsets Texas Southern 59-55

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas (AP) Jayrn Johnson scored 21 points and blocked three shots to help Prairie View A&M snap a seven-game losing streak and upset Southwestern Athletic Conference leader Texas Southern 59-55 on Saturday night.

Adamassu Williams finished with 11 points for Prairie View A&M (2-20, 2-8) which is last place in the conference.

The defeat snapped the Tigers' nine-game win streak and was their first conference setback of the season.

Williams' 3-point play put the Panthers up 48-40 with 8:06 to play. Johnson's 3 a minute-and-a-half later made it 51-42. Texas Southern went on a 7-1 run and Malcom Riley's layup cut the deficit to 52-49. Riley then made a 3 with 20 seconds to go, trimming it to 54-52.

Prairie View then shot 5 for 6 from the free throw line to clinch the win.

Chris Thomas led Texas Southern (10-12, 9-1) with 16 points, Riley had 15 and Derrick Griffin chipped in 11.
