UNC Wilmington tops Northeastern, 90-73 to keep hold on 1st

BOSTON (AP) Chris Flemmings scored 25 points and North Carolina Wilmington maintained its solo hold on first place in the Colonial Athletic Association Saturday with a 90-73 win over Northeastern.

The Seahawks, winners of nine straight, took over first-place Thursday, pulling out a 70-67 win over Hofstra. Northeastern now has lost six straight.

T.J. Williams converted a pair at the free throw line with 15 seconds left in the half to pull Northwestern within one at intermission, 40-39, and David Walker's 3-pointer a minute into the second half tied the game at 42-42.

UNC Wilmington responded with a 20-4 run to break the game open with a 62-46 lead.

The Seahawks (17-5, 9-2) finished shooting 62.7 percent (37 of 59), including 9 of 19 from long range. Craig Ponder finished with 16 points and C.J. Bryce 15.

Zach Stahl finished with 17 points and Quincy Ford added 15 for Northeastern (12-12, 4-7).
