Tennessee-Martin beats SIU Edwardsville, 79-62

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (AP) Twymond Howard scored 23 points and Tennessee-Martin pulled away from SIU Edwardsville in the second half in a 79-62 win on Saturday night.

Myles Taylor added 17 points and six rebounds and Alex Anderson finished with 14 points for the Skyhawks (13-12, 5-5 Ohio Valley), who have won three straight.

Tennessee-Martin shot 60 percent from the field and had 16 total assists on its 31 field goals.

Jake Newton scored 15 points to lead the Cougars (4-19, 1-10), who have dropped five in a row. Burak Eslik added 13 points for SIU Edwardsville.

The Skyhawks opened on an 11-0 run, but the Cougars fought back and trailed by just three (41-38) at the half.

But Tennessee-Martin put together a 22-10 scoring stretch over the first 10 minutes of the second half, capped by a Jacolby Mobley 3, to build a 63-48 advantage.

The Cougars never seriously threatened from there.
