Broome, Sacred Heart roll past Central Connecticut St. 87-52

FAIRFIELD, Conn. (AP) Cane Broome scored 28 points, Quincy McKnight added 16 more while hauling in 13 rebounds, and Sacred Heart rolled to an 87-52 win over Central Connecticut State on Saturday.

Broome was 9 of 15 from the field and scored his 1,000th career point from the foul line early in the second half. The sophomore entered the game needing 16 to reach the milestone and got it with the first of two free throws.

Sacred Heart (9-16, 8-6 Northeast Conference) opened with 10 straight points and never trailed. Jordan Allen's layup with 7:36 left in the first half made it 27-17 and the Pioneers led by double figures the rest of the way.

Allen and Matej Buovac finished with 12 points each for Sacred Heart, which shot 56 percent from the field (32-57).

Brandon Peel's 17 points and 11 rebounds led CCCSU (3-22, 2-12), which was held to 27 percent shooting.
