BOULDER, Colo. (AP) Colorado has promoted director of player development Darian Hagan to running backs coach.

This will be Hagan's second stint as an assistant coach. He said Saturday that he's excited to ''get his whistle back.''

Hagan was brought in by Gary Barnett to work with the skill players in 2005 and was retained when Dan Hawkins took over in 2006. He moved into the director of player personnel role under Jon Embree in 2011 and remained in a football administration position when Mike MacIntyre was hired.

MacIntyre said Hagan will ''give us another dimension in our running game.'' The Buffaloes begin spring practice on March 2.

Hagan was the quarterback when the Buffaloes won their only national title following the 1990 season.
