NJIT pulls away from Florida Gulf Coast, 68-59

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) Ky Howard scored 21 points, grabbed 10 rebounds, and NJIT pulled away to beat Florida Gulf Coast 68-59 on Saturday.

Tim Coleman and Damon Lynn each added 16 points for the Highlanders (16-11, 7-4 Atlantic Sun), who have won five straight and now sit just a half-game behind North Florida and Jacksonville in the Atlantic Sun standings.

Marc Eddy Norelia scored 17 points and added 11 boards for Florida Gulf Coast (15-12, 6-5), which was held to only 37 percent shooting.

The score was tied at 44 with 11: 51 left, but Coleman and Howard each made layups and Lynn hit a 3-pointer for a 7-0 Highlanders run with 10:15 to go. Lynn added a layup with 3:40 remaining which extended the NJIT lead to 60-49.

The Eagles got to within six on a Zach Johnson free throw, but NJIT scored eight of the next 10 to seal it.
