South Alabama holds off Georgia Southern late, wins 80-76

MOBILE, Ala. (AP) Georgi Boyanov and Shaq Calhoun each scored 20 points and Boyanov and Ken Williams each converted a pair of free throws in the final 29 seconds to lift South Alabama to an 80-76 Sun Belt victory over Georgia Southern Saturday.

The Jaguars have now won four of their last six games after snapping a six-game losing streak and snapped a four-game Georgia Southern win streak.

Boyanov and Williams each hit layups in the final minute of the first half, sending South Alabama into intermission with a 35-27 advantage and Boyanov hit a jumper to start the second half to push the lead to 10 points, 37-27.

Calhoun hit 4 of 6 from three-point range and Boyanov grabbed nine rebounds to help pace the Jaguars (10-14, 5-8). Williams added 15 points and distributed seven assists.

Jake Allsmiller hit 8 of 15 from long range to score 29 points for Georgia Southern (11-12, 7-6).
