Vermont outlasts Hartford 92-81

BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) Kurt Steidl scored a career-high 26 points and Vermont beat Hartford 92-81 on Sunday to snap a two-game losing streak.

Steidl made 5 of 9 3-pointers and 9 of 10 free throws. Dre Willis added 13 points and a career-high 12 rebounds for the Catamounts (15-12, 7-5 America East). Ernie Duncan and Darren Payen scored 15 points each. Vermont shot 55 percent, 43 percent from the arc.

Pancake Thomas scored 35 points for the Hawks (7-20, 2-10), who lost their seventh straight. Thomas has scored at least 35 points four times this season. Jalen Ross added 16 points. Thomas was 8 of 13 on 3-pointers, the rest of the team just 4 of 18.

Wills gave Vermont the lead for good with a basket with 9:11 to go. Ethan O'Day's bucket with under two minutes left put the Catamounts up 11 and Hartford didn't get closer than seven after that.
