Towson handles William & Mary 99-82

TOWSON, Md. (AP) Mike Morsell scored a career-high 34 points on 11-for-17 shooting to lead Towson past William & Mary on Saturday creating a logjam for third place in the Colonial Athletic Association.

Towson (18-9, 9-5), William & Mary (17-8, 9-5) and James Madison (19-8, 9-5) each are a game behind second place Hofstra (18-8, 10-4).

William & Mary entered the game with the highest RPI ranking of any CAA team at 52.

Towson used a 10-2 run to open a 38-29 lead with 3:52 left in the first half.

The Tigers led 46-37 at halftime when Morsell hit back-to-back 3s and a layup. In the second half, Morsell had back-to-back steals leading to consecutive layups and Towson led 65-55 with 12:04 left.

Byron Hawkins added 18 points and William Adala Moto scored 14 for the Tigers.

Omar Prewitt scored 20 points, and Terry Tarpey and Daniel Dixon each scored 15 for the Tribe.
