Jerry Johnson scores 25 points, Fairfield edges Marist 76-73

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) Jerry Johnson Jr. scored a career-high 25 points, including a late, tie-breaking 3-pointer, and Fairfield edged Marist 76-73 on Monday night.

Johnson, a freshman, was 8 of 11 from the field, including a season-high 7 of 9 from beyond the arc for Fairfield (15-11, 9-7 Metro Atlantic), which won its third in a row. Marcus Gilbert scored 20 points with seven rebounds and Tyler Nelson added 15 points.

Marist (5-20, 2-14 Metro Atlantic) was led by Brian Parker with 20 points. Kristinn Palsson scored 17 points and Kentrall Brooks added 12 points with seven rebounds.

Fairfield tied it at 68 with 2:09 left on a pair of Gilbert free throws. On the next possession, Marist turned it over, and Johnson drilled a 3-pointer to put Fairfield up three. The Stags made 5 of 6 from the line in the last 22 seconds to ice it.
