Cancer leads Kent State past Western Michigan 84-78 in OT

KENT, Ohio (AP) Galal Cancer scored 24 points, including two key free throws in overtime to help Kent State beat Western Michigan 84-78 on Tuesday night.

Jimmy Hall scored four points, Kellon Thomas added two free throws and Kent State jumped out to a 78-75 lead with 2:26 left in overtime. Cancer added two free throws, Western Michigan's Anthony Avery Jr. missed a 3-point attempt, and Hall split a pair of free throws as the Golden Flashes stretched their lead to 81-75 with 44 seconds left.

Bryce Moore made 3 of 4 from the line to pull the Broncos to 81-78 with 24 seconds left. The Golden Flashes made three free throws to seal it.

Hall and Thomas scored 15 points apiece for Kent State (17-9, 8-5 Mid-American Conference). Chris Ortiz and Deon Edwin chipped in 13 points each.

Thomas Wilder had 24 points, including a jumper at the buzzer to force overtime, for Western Michigan (10-16, 4-9).
