Duke guard Matt Jones sat out Saturday’s loss to Louisville with an ankle injury.

ESPN’s Dick Vitale reported before the game that he thought Jones would play.

Jones was not in the starting lineup, with freshman Luke Kennard starting in his place, and despite warming up before the game, was not used.

The team announced Friday that Jones would miss the game after spraining his ankle in the first half of the Blue Devils’ 74–73 win over North Carolina on Wednesday. He was unable to put weight on the ankle during the game and head coach Mike Krzyzewski was unsure after the game how much time Jones would miss. X-rays on the injury were negative.

Head coach Mike Krzyzewski said after the game that he expected Jones to be ready for Thursday’s game against Florida State at home.

Shorthanded Duke has been without starting forward Amile Jefferson since Dec. 5. The Blue Devils rotated just six players on Wednesday, with Chase Jeter the lone substitute to receive playing time.

Jones is averaging 11.2 points and shooting 41% from three this season.
