Norfolk State beats Coppin State 85-77

NORFOLK, Va. (AP) Jeff Short had 17 points on Monday night, D'Shon Taylor chipped in 15 and Norfolk State beat Coppin State 85-77.

The Spartans (14-14, 10-3 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) trailed nearly the entire first half but rallied to tie it 30-all at intermission and then opened the second with an 8-0 run to take the lead for good.

Coppin State (7-20, 5-9) fell behind by as many as 12 before its own rally made it interesting in the final minute. Trevon Seymore capped a 7-2 run to get the Eagles within 79-75 with 52 seconds left.

Jordan Butler and Taylor then had back-to-back dunks to push the Spartans back up by eight.

Charles Oliver scored 12 and Butler 11 for Norfolk State.

Christian Kessee had 18 points, Joshua Treadwell and Mufaro Murinda added 17 each and Seymore scored 15. The Eagles had their largest lead at 24-10.
