Northwestern State's late surge tops Nicholls State 81-67

NATCHITOCHES, La. (AP) Zeek Woodley scored 23 points and Northwestern State used a late surge to get past Nicholls State 81-67 Monday night.

Sabri Thompson scored 14 points with six rebounds and three assists for the Demons (8-17, 5-10 Southland Conference), who shot over 46 percent. Devonte Hall and Ishmael Lane added 11 points apiece.

Nicholls State (7-21, 3-11) was led by Ja'Dante' Frye with 15 points. Liam Thomas scored 12 points and Johnathan Bell added 11 points and nine rebounds. The Colonels shot nearly 57 percent, but took 14 fewer shots than Northwestern State and committed 29 turnovers.

Northwestern State led most of the game, but a 3-pointer and dunk on consecutive possessions by Frye tied it at 57 with 8:31 to go. Woodley's jumper with 6:18 left made it 62-61 and gave the Demons the lead for good as they outscored the Colonels 21-6 down the stretch.
