Prairie View beats MVSU 63-61 on Johnson's late FTs

ITTA BENA, Miss. (AP) Admassu Williams scored 21 points and Jayrn Johnson made three free throws with one second left as Prairie View beat Mississippi Valley State 63-61 on Monday night.

The Panthers swept their Delta swing of the Southwestern Athletic Conference for the first time in more than two decades after winning at Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Saturday for the first time since 2005.

Marcus Romain hit two free throws with 1:14 left to give MVSU a 61-58 lead. Malik Amos missed a 3-pointer on Prairie View's next possession but Karim York grabbed the offensive rebound and Johnson scored in the paint to pull to 61-60 with 1:03 remaining.

MVSU missed a jumper and Prairie View grabbed the rebound and called timeout with 23 seconds left.

Johnson finished with 20 points for Prairie View (5-21, 5-9), which is tied for sixth place with Alabama A&M.

Romain led Mississippi Valley State (5-24, 5-10) with 25 points.
