Aldridge scores 24 points in Davidson's 65-54 win over Rams

DAVIDSON, N.C. (AP) Peyton Aldridge scored 24 points and Davidson defeated Rhode Island 65-54 on Tuesday night for the Wildcats' third consecutive victory.

Aldridge was 6 of 12 from the field, including 4 of 6 from 3-point range. Jack Gibbs, who came into the game as the nation's third-leading scorer at 25.3 points per game, had 16 for Davidson (17-9, 9-6 Atlantic 10), which shot only 42 percent but was 41 percent from the arc on 9-of-22 shooting. Nathan Ekwu grabbed 11 rebounds.

Jared Terrell was the only Rhode Island (15-13, 7-8) player to score in double figures with 13 points. Kuran Iverson grabbed 10 rebounds. The Rams shot only 34 percent and just 23 percent from 3-point range.

The Rams led only at 4-3. Davidson had a 32-24 halftime lead and took its biggest lead of 16 points, 62-46, on Gibbs' jumper with three minutes remaining.
