South Carolina Upstate holds off NJIT 72-71

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) Josh Cuthbertson scored 15 points and Malik Moore sank the winning 3-pointer at the buzzer to lift South Carolina Upstate past NJIT for a 72-71 win Thursday night.

Upstate (10-21, 4-10 Atlantic Sun) led by double digits most of the game before NJIT rallied late in the second half with a 17-0 run capped by Chris Jenkins' 3-pointer to edge into its first lead, 71-69 with seven seconds left. Moore then took a pass from Jure Span and launched the winning 3 at the other end as time expired.

Mike Cunningham, Philip Whittington and Moore finished with 10 points apiece for the Spartans, who hit 27 of 58 from the field (46.6 percent) and held a 39-33 rebounding advantage. Cuthbertson also collected nine rebounds.

Damon Lynn led NJIT (17-13, 8-6) with 21 points, Tim Coleman added 19 and Ky Howard had 12. Jenkins finished with nine points, all from beyond the arc.
