Alabama State wins 4th straight, tops Prairie View 73-68

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas (AP) Jamel Waters and Torloft Thomas combined to score 29 points and Alabama State beat Prairie View A&M, 73-68 Saturday night, extending its season-long win streak to four games.

Prairie View came into the game after sweeping Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Mississippi Valley State on the road and was in search of its first three-game winning streak of the season.

The teams played to a 35-35 draw at intermission, but Alabama State led by as many as 18 points midway through the second half after Waters hit a jumper to make it 62-44.

Waters shot 6 of 13 from the field, including 3 of 6 from beyond the arc, to finish with 15 points to pace Alabama State (12-15, 7-8 Southwestern Athletic Conference). Thomas hit 4 of 8 from the field and was also 3 of 6 from long range.

Tevin Bellinger had 16 points and Jayrn Johnson added 15 to lead Prairie View (5-22, 5-10).
