Monmouth clinches MAAC title outright, beats Niagara 77-68

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. (AP) Justin Robinson scored 25 points and Monmouth clinched the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference title outright with a 77-68 victory over Niagara on Sunday.

The Hawks (25-6, 17-3) have won 11 of their last 12, and will play the winner of Thursday's Rider-Quinnipiac game in the conference tournament quarterfinals Friday night.

Niagara (7-24, 5-15) has lost three straight, and enters as the 10th seed, facing Canisius in a first-round game Thursday.

Je'lon Hornbeak and Collin Stewart added 12 points apiece, and Diago Quinn grabbed 16 rebounds and chipped in six points for the Hawks.

Emile Blackman scored 22 points and Marvin Prochet had 10 points and 13 rebounds to lead Niagara. Chris Barton had 11 points and six assists.

Monmouth had a 12-point lead midway through the second half. Niagara pulled to 68-66 with 2:48 left but did not get closer.
