Johnson scores 35, Prairie View A&M beats Alabama A&M 85-65

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas (AP) Jayrn Johnson had a career-high 35 points with five 3-pointers and five steals on Monday night to help Prairie View A&M beat Alabama A&M 85-65.

Johnson scored 19 in the first half when the Panthers (6-22, 6-10 Southwestern Athletic Conference) pulled away with a 21-6 run and led 47-34 at the break.

Prairie View A&M kept a double-digit lead throughout the second half except when Tyler Davis' dunk brought the Bulldogs (9-16, 5-11) within 63-54 with 9:11 left. The Panthers responded with an 11-2 run and led by no less than 14 from there.

The Panthers shot 57 percent from field. Johnson made 5 of 10 from 3-point range and the Panthers were 8 of 16. Karim York scored 14, Zachary Hamilton added 12 and Admassu Williams 10.

Ladarius Tabb had 21 points and nine rebounds for the Bulldogs. Nicholas West added 10 points.
