Holy Cross upsets Bucknell 77-72 in double overtime

LEWISBURG, Pa. (AP) Malachi Alexander scored 20 points, including the go-ahead basket, and ninth-seeded Holy Cross overtook No. 1 Bucknell for a 77-72 double overtime win Thursday night to advance to the Patriot League semi-finals.

After trailing much of the game, Holy Cross (12-19) got the first bucket of the second overtime period, Malachi's jumper, to make it 67-65, and led the rest of the way. Bucknell (17-13) tightened it 69-68 with a 3-pointer from Chris Haas but the Crusaders held on, stretching their advantage to 75-69 with 25 seconds left and sealing it with a pair of free throws from Malachi.

Robert Champion forced both overtime periods for Holy Cross, hitting a free throw to tie the game at 53 at the end of regulation and sinking a 3-pointer to tie it at 65 at the end of the first OT.

Matt Husek added 12 points while Charles, Champion and Eric Green finished with 10 each.

Zach Thomas's 19 points led four Bucknell players in double figures.

Holy Cross will play Army on Sunday.
