Duke’s Amile Jefferson (foot) out for season, will seek medical waiver
Duke senior forward Amile Jefferson will miss the rest of the season with a broken foot and seek a medical hardship waiver.
The school announced the news Saturday ahead of Duke’s rivalry game against North Carolina. Jefferson hopes to return for the 2016-17 season.
Jefferson had reportedly been unable to run effectively on the foot, which has not made the proper progress since Jefferson broke it diving for a loose ball in practice. He has not played since the injury, Dec. 12.
Duke is 22–8 and bound for the NCAA tournament, but will continue to feel Jefferson’s absence as head coach Mike Krzyzewski deploys a thin rotation, particularly up front where Marshall Plumlee remains the only big receiving serious minutes.

Should he receive the waiver, Jefferson will join a team that welcomes in five-star recruits Harry Giles, Jayson Tatum and Frank Jackson.
Jefferson, a former McDonald’s All-American, averaged 11.4 points and 10.3 rebounds in nine games this season, both career highs.
