Akron downs Kent State 74-60 for 24th win of season

AKRON, Ohio (AP) Noah Robotham and Isaiah Johnson scored 12 points apiece, Johnson grabbed 11 rebounds and Akron beat Kent State 74-60 on Friday night to sweep the season series and end the regular season undefeated in Mid-American Conference play.

The Zips (24-7, 15-0) are the No. 1 seed in the MAC tournament, which starts Monday.

Josh Williams scored 11 points and Jake Kretzer had 10 boards for Akron, which led 33-30 at halftime on 45.7 percent shooting, led by Johnson's seven points.

Kent State rallied in the second half and led 39-38 on Kellon Thomas' layup, but Akron pulled ahead 60-51 on Robotham's layup. The Zips pushed the lead to 66-54 after Williams hit a 3 with 5:07 left.

Antino Jackson's layup with 1:51 left gave Akron a 71-59 lead and he finished off the Golden Flashes with another layup with 51 seconds to go.

Jimmy Hall led Kent State (19-12, 6-8) with 20 points and a career-high 17 rebounds.
