Monmouth beats Rider 59-48 in MAAC tourney quarterfinals

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) Micah Seaborn scored 14, while Austin Tilghman and Chris Brady added 12 points apiece to help top-seeded Monmouth beat No. 8 seed Rider 59-48 in the quarterfinals of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference tournament Friday night.

Monmouth will play either fourth-seeded St. Peter's or No. 5 seed Fairfield in the semifinals Sunday.

The Hawks (26-6) shot just 32 percent from the field - their fourth-lowest percentage this season - but hit 18 of 21 foul shots and converted 21 Rider turnovers into 24 points while limiting the Broncs (13-20) to 16-of-46 shooting (35 percent).

Rider took a 6-2 lead nearly four minutes in, but went scoreless for the next six-plus minutes until Kealen Ives hit a 3 to pull within five with 9:40 left in the half.

The Broncs didn't make another field goal until Ives' layup with one second left in the half.

Xavier Lundy led Rider with 14 points.
