Hofstra eliminates William & Mary from the CAA, 70-67

BALTIMORE (AP) Ameen Tanksley scored 23 points and Hofstra edged William & Mary 70-67 in a Colonial Athletic Association tournament semifinal on Sunday.

The top-seeded Pride (24-8) will face No. 2-seed UNC Wilmington (24-7), winners over Northeastern, in the title game on Monday.

A close game throughout, a layup by Hofstra's Denton Koon tied it at 56 during an 8-0 run that left the Pride up by four with 5:46 remaining.

No. 5 seed William & Mary (20-11) came back and tied it at 65 on a 3-pointer by Greg Malinowski with 3:41 to go. But the Tribe scored just one more basket, and Koon's layup with eight seconds left was the difference maker.

Koon finished with 10 points for Hofstra. Brian Bernardi and Juan'ya Green both scored 14 points and Rokas Gustys grabbed 13 rebounds, six offensive.

Malinowski, who entered the game averaging 7.2 points, led William & Mary with a career-high 22, hitting five 3-pointers.
