Siena beats defending champ Manhattan 89-76 in MAAC quarters

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) Brett Bisping had 22 points and 16 rebounds on Saturday night and Siena dethroned two-time defending tournament champion Manhattan 89-76 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference quarterfinals.

No. 3 seed Siena (21-11) scored seven straight to lead 80-70 with 2:14 left and made 9 of 10 free throws to seal the win. Lavon Long added 17 points, eight rebounds and five assists and Javion Ogunyemi had 16 points.

The Saints advanced to the semifinals for the first time since 2012 and will face No. 2 seed Iona (20-10) on Sunday. Sixth-seeded Manhattan (13-18) had faced the Gaels in the last three title games, winning in 2014 and 2015.

The Jaspers trailed by 66-50 with 11:05 to go but battled to within 73-70 on Shane Richards' 3-point play with 5:07 left.

Rich Williams had 26 points, Tyler Wilson added 14, Richards scored 12 and Calvin Crawford 11 for Manhattan.
