Texas Southern tops Alcorn State 76-66 behind Riley's 36

LORMAN, Miss. (AP) Malcolm Riley made nine 3-pointers and scored 36 points - both season highs - to help Southwestern Athletic Conference champion Texas Southern beat Alcorn State 76-66 on Saturday in the season finale for both teams.

The Tigers (17-13, 16-2) are the No. 1 seed in the upcoming SWAC tournament while the Braves (15-14, 13-5) are No. 2, thanks to Jackson State's 54-51 loss to Alabama A&M on Saturday.

Riley shot 9 of 14 from the field, 9 of 12 from beyond the arc and made 9 of 10 free throws for the Tigers, who swept the season series against the Braves.

Chris Thomas scored 13 points, Derrick Griffin added 12 and David Blanks had 13 assists for Texas Southern.

Texas Southern led 38-30 at halftime and finished shooting 12 of 20 (60 percent) from long distance.

Tamarcio Wilson led Alcorn State with 19 points and seven assists.
